DARE America Youth Representative

DARE America Youth Representative

Meet Wisconsin's DARE America Youth Representative

Hello. My name is Chloe Gene Spriggle. I am a junior at Ellsworth High School. I am thrilled to be on the Wisconsin DARE Youth Representative. I want to make a difference in kids lives and being a part of the DARE program helps me achieve this goal.

I am the daughter of Brent and Mary Spriggle and have a younger brother named Reegan. We live in Ellsworth and are very involved in our community. Along with being the Wisconsin DARE Youth Representative, I also serve on the FACT (fighting against corporate tobacco) youth board of directors. Being involved in lots of different things keeps me busy and ecstatic. In school I am a member of PALS (play and learn service), student council, arrive alive (against drunk driving), yearbook committee, the just do something club, e-club, prom committee and I play percussion in the band. I guess you could say I beat to my own drum. I also am very involved in my church youth group. As for sports I am on the girl’s varsity golf team.

I went through the DARE program in 5th grade at Hillcrest Elementary. I knew at that time I wanted to live my life drug-free. Staying drug and alcohol free is hard sometimes, but the main thing that I learned in DARE is just say NO! You can still have fun, be apart of an assortment of different things, be popular, and live your life drug free. I am living the drug-free life to be a positive influence to my friends, family, and under classmen.

Wisconsin DARE Role Models

MEET THE WISCOSIN DARE ROLE MODELS

ALYSSA NYCZ

Hi, my name is Alyssa Nycz. I am a high school senior, and I am very involved in academics and extracurricular activities. In addition to being a varsity track and cross country runner, I am also a member of National Honor Society, and I am secretary of my school’s student council. I was previously nominated to attend both Badger Girls State and the 2011 World Affairs Seminar, but because they were held during the same week, I was only able to participate in the World Affairs Seminar. Outside of school, I take weekly piano lessons, and have been doing so for the past ten years. I also value my church community and my Catholic faith. My hobbies include running, reading, fishing, and spending time with my family and friends.

Growing up, I have always been taught about the negative consequences of drug and alcohol use, and I still carry these views with me from my early childhood. I believe that the D.A.R.E. program is important because it provides students with the knowledge that they will need to make safe, healthy, and wise decisions throughout the rest of their lives. I hope to spread the message of the D.A.R.E. program to students in my community and to be a strong role model on how to live a drug free life.

ASHLEY LONGSDORF

Hello my friends!! J My name is Ashley Longsdorf. I am 17 years old and from the small, proud town of Plum City, Wisconsin. I am the oldest child in my family with two younger brothers, Christopher and Luke. Ron and Tracy Longsdorf are my awesome parents.

As a senior at Plum City High School, I am extremely involved in my school and my community. I am on the National Honor Society, and in FFA, 4-H, Drama Club, Math Club, and Forensics. I love to sing in the concert choir, jazz choir and conference Honors Choir. I play clarinet in band, and piano in jazz band. I have been the President of the PC Class of 2012 for the past 4 years. This year (2011-2012) I am the President of the PC FFA, Treasurer of the Merri-Heirs 4-H club, an officer of the Concert Choir. After school I occupy my time by going to practice. I play on the Varsity Volleyball and Basketball teams. I am also a Varsity Cheerleader and participate on the Plum City Track and Field team. Between all of these commitments, somehow I find time to study well, because I have proudly been on the A Honor Roll since middle school. On the weekends, I work as a hostess at a restaurant called The Pickle Factory in a nearby town. Before reading in church on Sundays, I help teach kindergarteners and 1st graders at Catholic Education Class as a Youth Religious Education Assistant at my church.

I stay tremendously busy with all of these activities but that’s the way I like it. J I am never bored! All these experiences have allowed me to develop strong public speaking and leadership skills, while also enabling me to grow and blossom into the confident leader I am today! I always try to grasp every opportunity and strive to make the most out of them.

Being granted the opportunity of the Wisconsin DARE Youth Advisory Board is absolutely incredible! I am so thankful for this opportunity, and I look forward to all the phenomenal experiences this will bring the DARE students of Wisconsin, the DARE program, the YAB members and myself!

Thanks to DARE and a great family, I can proudly say that I have never drank or done drugs in my life! Every day in my elementary DARE classes, I was amazed at what drugs and alcohol can do to you-how they can control you. DARE made up my mind from the beginning that I was NEVER going to waste my life and give up my dreams by giving in to negative peer pressure, drugs, or alcohol. Please don’t ever give in to these evils. Realize how important you are and that you are much stronger than any alcohol or any drug! Live your life for your family, your friends and yourself, not for drugs! Be Happy! Be Strong!

ALYSSA KOHLS

Hi! My name is Alyssa Kohls and I am a 17 year old from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. I am currently a senior at Manitowoc Lincoln High School. I live with my parents and younger brother whom is a sophomore in highschool. My interests are dancing and playing softball. I participate in the dance team at my school and dance for a private studio as well. I play softball through the school and for a county league during the summer. At school I am part of the Student Athletic Council, LINK Crew, National Honor Society, Rotary Club, and was part of the 2011 prom court committee and 2011 Homecoming Court. After high school, I plan to attend a college in state and major in nursing.

LESLIE TROCHLIL

Hello! My name is Leslie Trochlil, and I am the second child of three. I live outside of Rhinelander on a tiny lake, where I can catch frogs, swim, and fish to my heart’s content. I love animals, and enjoy riding horses in the western style. One of my greatest passions is ballet, which I have danced since I was three years old. It takes a lot of discipline and hard work as with any sport, but the gracefulness and elegance that comes with ballet certainly makes it worth the while! Along with the DARE program, I participate in FBLA and National Honor Society at my high school.

DARE is a very important program to me. I remember looking forward to the DARE lesson each Monday as a 5th grader in 2005. What stuck out to me the most was how alluring doing drugs could seem, whether it be based on a cigarette company’s advertisements or simple peer pressure. I am proud to say, however, that DARE taught me how harmful drugs really can be, and I have taken this lesson with me all through junior high and into the present.

BAILEY OETTEL

I live in La Crosse, Wisconsin and attend Logan High School. I am currently a freshman and some sports I am involved in include cross-country and track. I also do forensics, german club,
and choir.  My favorite subject in school is Science and some things I do for fun include hanging out with friends, reading, yoga, and watchingmovies. I also like to go hiking and camping. I have two dogs and want to go into a career related to animal science.

The D.A.R.E. officer who recomended me was John Siegel. I think the D.A.R.E. program would definately benefit our area because many people in high school are on drugs. Somethings I could do as a D.A.R.E. representitive to prevent this, are going into middle school classrooms, with an officer and talking about the positive things I'm doing in my life instead of using drugs and
alcohol. Also, having an event like a movie night, dance or road race sponsered by D.A.R.E. would be a good idea, too.
