Meet Wisconsins DARE America Youth Represenative
HI, let me introduce myself, I am Jennifer Fuchs. I am the youngest of three children having two older brothers Jason 21, and Jared 18. We live on a little hobby farm in Ellsworth, which is in western Wisconsin. My Dad, Jim, works for 3M and my Mom works for the Pierce County Health Department.
I attended St, Francis Catholic School, kindergarten through fifth grade, and with the help of family and friends I have developed a strong Catholic Faith. In forth grade I received the principals award, which is the highest honor to receive each year.
In Kindergarten I started dance lessons at the Helmer Dance Studios in Beldenville, Wisconsin. I had attended dance lessons until the beginning of last year, which is eight years. I had decided to quit because I wanted to get more involved in sports, 4-H and do more fun things with my family and friends.
Last year was my first year in sports. I really enjoyed it even though I’m not the best sports player ever. I did track, softball and volleyball which I had lots of fun with. I just finished taking stats for the girls 8th grade basketball team.
I am currently in 4-H, which I have been in for 9 years. I have taken steers, chickens, pigeons, ceramics clothing and food to the county fair. My favorite thing I have taken to the fair is my steers, because I raise them from when they are calves until they are 1 year old.
I also like to do a lot of things with my family and friends. With my family I go on vacations, small ones, such as going to my grandparents cabin up in Turtle Lake, to big vacations such as going to Florida for a week. I also like to just watch movies, television, play board games and card games. I also do lots of things with my friends in 4-H such as snowboarding, skiing and 4-H camp. I also like to just hang out and talk with my friends. One thong that I have really enjoyed to do with my friends is to go to the English Lutheran Church dances. I like doing this because we get to dance, hang out with friends and eat pizza. Ellsworth has been fortunate in having the English Luthern Church do this, for it gives us something to do after the football games. Ellsworth is quite small, with no fast food restaurants, movie theaters or bowling alleys.
My Mom is involved with the WINS program, which I’m sure you are acquainted with. If not, it is a program where students are asked to participate in a “sting” operation where they go into business and try to buy cigarettes and to see if the sales clerks ask for an ID or just say NO. I have been fortunate to ride along and help with the paperwork of these operations. I believe it is important task to help keep smoking out of the hands of young children. This fall I will be able to fully participate, so I am looking forward to do this.
In conclusion I would just like to say that I am glad to have a loving family who cares for me and helped me become a person who has never tried drugs or ever will try drugs.
