FROM THE 1ST VICE PRESIDENT
Hello Everyone,
I am very excited to be the Vice President this year for our organization. Jeff Carr and I will be working closely together on making next years conference another success. Wausau is going to be a GREAT venue so make plans now to attend.
Looking back on last year’s conference, I want to extend another congratulations to DARE Officer of the Year, Steve Albarado. Steve exemplifies the passion and commitment on duty as well as off that made him the perfect choice for this award. I know we as DARE Officers don’t do this for any recognition or special attention. It is our love for children and wanting to make a difference in their lives that gives us the inspiration to keep walking into those classrooms. That said, if you know a fellow DARE Officer that would be worthy of the DARE Officer of the Year Award, please let us know.
If I can be of assistance in anyway, don’t hesitate to ask.

Hello All,
I hope each of you is well and enjoying the school year thus far.
The board met on October 14th at The Grand Lodge (www.grandlodgesc.com) and the place is fabulous. The facility has a lot to offer our officers and families (one of which is a water park). Located within walking distance are a Pick N Save, The Bar and Gander Mountain, to name a few. Please visit their site so you can see why we are so excited about the accomodations. I will continue to update you when registration and room reservations open.
In the meantime, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save the dates for the conference, July 9-11, 2012. The conference planners are working with the Lodge to make activities available for the children and spouses who accompany you. If you visit their site you may notice that the water park is not generally open during our stay. They are willing to accomodate our group. The schedule is still in the works but I doubt they will run the pool for the entire day. Several hours seems more of a reasonable compromise. To help us plan some other activities, please let us know the number of children and ages of the children that will accompany you.

Greetings from Area #3. I am Deputy Jim Adams with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office. We had a great conference in Green Bay in August learning the new curriculum, and are already hard at work preparing for the 2012 WDOA Training Conference to be held in Rothschild, WI. The new Keepin' it Real curriculum is out and being implemented into the classrooms, and we look forward to teaching this exciting new class to our children. Congratulations to Ashley Adams from Nativity Catholic School, Rhinelander and Emily Sczygelski from Jefferson Elementary School, Merrill for having their student essays selected for recognition at the conference. Great job, girls! If I can be of any assistance in obtaining new curriculum materials, or helping with keeping your programs running strong, please contact me.

I am Jon Wenger of the La Crosse Police Department. I have been involved in D.A.R.E. in the La Crosse area since 2006. I am happy to be a part of the WDOA Board. If you find yourself in area 4 please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.
As your representative, it is my responsibility to provide communication between the WDOA and your individual agency so please contact me with any suggestions or issues. This leads me to share with you how extremely important it is that you keep your information up to date with me. I prefer email however it is equally important to have a phone number and address as well.
It is also my responsibility to collect your DARE essays for our annual conference. Please forward or mail me a copy of these essays to build a tough competition. In Green Bay, we saw and heard a national winner from Ashwaubenon. I would like the next national essay winner to be from Area 4.

I want to welcome you to Area 5. I am currently the Sheriff for Pierce County and now a member or the Wisconsin Dare Board. If you have any questions about Dare or how to start a program in this area please contact me and I will give you all the help I can. If you are a Dare officer in this area please make sure you keep up on all the new changes coming up for Dare. I am excited to be a part of such a great family.
